Problem
Local independent nightclub owners struggle with high expenses in music licensing, booking agent fees, and DJ costs. These financial challenges prevent them from improving other aspects of the club experience like the sound system, lighting, and atmosphere (light up dance floor anyone?) to attract larger crowds and increase revenue.
Solution
AI technology is the hot new thing right now. Currently, most of the attention surrounding AI has been for text- and picture-based applications like ChatGPT, Dall-E, and Midjourney.
But AI can generate music, too. And since music itself is basically just an algorithm, AI can potentially be really good at it.
While this project started as simply an AI music generator, we realized that was just something cool, not a solution to a problem.
So, we decided to narrow the scope of our project. We ended up with an idea for an AI app that generated royalty-free music for nightclub owners.

Gathering Data
We collected our initial user data using two methods:
User Interviews:
6 interviews with 12 interviews questions per interview. Most interview participants were musicians.
Survey:
A 12-question survey elicited 11 unique responses. The opinions were either neutral or strongly weighted against AI music, save for a few outliers.

Persona
Eugene is a 43-year-old man who owns a popular nightclub in the city. He is always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to keep his customers entertained and engaged. John is tech-savvy and is always interested in exploring new technologies that can help him achieve his business goals. John is a busy man and values efficiency and convenience, so he is looking for an app that is easy to use and can save him time.
Feature Priority Matrix
Utilizing a feature priority matrix can prove to be a valuable asset in visualizing the most critical features to incorporate into a prototype. Employing the dot voting system can aid in identifying the most crucial features for a constant stream of music in an app visualizer that responds to generated music based on mood, along with a menu to regulate and modify the lighting system within the application.
Storyboard
The storyboard follows the journey of a business club owner who discovers an AI app that generates music. As he experiments with the app, he realizes the potential it has to enhance the atmosphere of his club and keep his guests entertained. With the help of the app, he creates a unique and dynamic playlist that sets his club apart from the rest.
Interaction Design
Task Flow
Our IA music generating app's User Flow Diagram has been updated to enhance the user experience by emphasizing user performance and incorporating new features such as vibe and atmosphere selection. This update provides a more personalized and intuitive experience for our users.
Sketches
The Initial sketches took inspirations from a revolving turntable that would spin every time a new song is selected.
Wireframing
Designing a wireframe for an AI music generation application that draws inspiration from turntables and DJ setups, while also taking into account the user's mood, can result in highly personalized and distinctive music experience.

Low Fidelity Prototype
In creating our low fidelity prototype we incorporated the customer's mood and scene ambience to produce customized music. Our innovative technology promises to revolutionize the music industry and provide a unique listening experience for our users.
High Fidelity Prototype
The final stages of our AI music generated app involved implementing a gold color scheme and simplifying the five buttons into a three button function. Additionally, we added an "adjust mood" feature below the app for enhanced user experience.
Iterations
We've made several iterations on our music generating app to enhance user experience. We simplified the top navigation bar and added graphics and genres for easy navigation. Additionally, we included a sentence description that generates its own AI music, making the app even more innovative and user-friendly.

Next Steps
Our two main constraints with this project were budget and time. With more of these resources, we could:

Hire a dev team to actually make the app.

Add more parameters.

Add sound interactivity to the prototype – this is a lot harder than you’d think.
